Espress(o) Yourself
There was a time if things were off, you’d tell the staff, or you’ll relate it to your spouse, or you simply didn’t go back.
Now, there are reviews.
They help us choose the place or a product. They hold people to account. But along the way, they’ve also become punitive.
Online reviews are non confrontational with no conversation to be had. It’s enough just to be heard without listening. Where many good experiences pass without a post yet a single disappointing moment becomes a matter of permanent public record.
This isn’t an argument against reviews. It’s an urge for reflection.
Everyone can make mistakes. Work can sometimes go wrong. Crew can have a difficult day too. Civility involves a little grace, and it means accepting not every imperfection has to be judged. The moral courage to communicate directly is key.
There surely must be at least one review that, on hindsight, need not be written.
Today, there are 55,000 food establishments in Singapore still serving food, providing jobs and trying to make it through labour shortages, high costs, low spending, and some of the toughest years the industry has faced.
There are millions of us here. What if we each removed one bad review for them? Not because other business deserves special treatment. But because humans deserve second chances.
A simple undo – to make the world better for all, one review at a time.
