A Second Shot

There was a time when your meal was off, you tell the staff, your spouse, or you stay in silence.

Now, come reviews.

They help us choose the place or a product. They hold people to account. But along the way, they’ve also become punitive.

Reviews carry no conversations. It’s enough to be heard without hearing. Where good experiences pass without a post yet one imperfect moment becomes a matter of public record; and no amount of remorse or remedy will remove it.

This isn’t an argument against reviews. It’s a call for reflection.

Who doesn’t make mistakes? Crew can have difficult days. Civility means accepting not every wrong is judged.

We must have at least one review that, on hindsight, need not be written.

Today, we have 55,000 places in Singapore still serving food, providing jobs and enduring another day of labour shortage, high costs, low spending, and some of the toughest years the industry has ever faced.

Why with millions of us here, what if we each removed just one bad review? Not because businesses deserve special treatment. But because human beings deserve second chances.

A simple undo – for a less unforgiving world.
